What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Registering on our website will allow you to download software, access additional information, and contact us. Registration requires the communication of some personal data:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address
  • Country
  • Affiliation (institution or company name and address)
  • Professional status
  • Your website URL
  • Uploaded profile picture
  • Personal password (stored in hashed form)

If you place an order, or if you use the software license management functions on our website, we may also collect location and traffic data (including IP address and browser type). Additionally, we collect information submitted as part of support requests, comments or forum posts, which are not “personal data” per-se but that may be protected by author’s rights.

We process personal data for the following purposes:

  • provide technical and/or customer support,
  • set up and administer your account,
  • verify your identity and/or affiliation if you make a purchase,
  • manage and verify the authorised use of our software products by licensees,
  • analyze sales and marketing statistics.

The data will neither be sold nor communicated, but we use data processors to process your data (hosting, email, data backup, customer management and accounting). The legal basis for using these data processors is legitimate interest under Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The legitimate interest lies in the execution of our business activities, particularly to provide our services to you. No conflicting interest is apparent because we have entered into a data processing agreement with the respective processors under Art. 28 GDPR.

If you do not wish to provide the described information, you may not be able to access the documents, information and services available on our website. Notably, in order to license our paid software products, you must agree to this privacy policy.

Cookies

If you have an account and you log in to our website, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you sign in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Keep me signed in”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

This site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Integration of third-party services

Within some pages of this website, third-party content (such as YouTube videos, external maps, RSS feeds, graphics, etc.) of other websites is integrated. This always requires that the providers of such content (hereinafter referred to as “third-party providers”) view your IP address. Without the IP address, the third-party providers would not be able to send the content to your browser. As such, your IP address is required for the presentation of such content. We strive to only use content whose respective providers use your IP address solely for the delivery of content. However, we have no control over the continued use of your data (for example, if the third party providers store your IP address for statistical purposes).

Who we share your data with

We do not share your data with third parties.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on our website or are a licensee of our software products, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
