x11 required when using ovitos

Hi,

I'm currently using ovitos to process a massive data set. I submit jobs to our local cluster and in these jobs I run ovitos in an embarrassingly parallel fashion. The problem is that even for using only the script interface it is still required to have a x11 display to run ovitos. My solution was to forward the x11 to the compute node during the job submission, which works ok but brings up a lot of other unrelated bugs I'm trying to solve with my local cluster tech team.

Is there any way to use ovitos without the need of having an active x11?

Thanks!

Rodrigo

Hi Rodrigo,

you can prevent ovitos from connecting to the X server by clearing the DISPLAY environment variable before executing "ovitos":

DISPLAY= ./ovitos yourscript.py

Please let me know if that solves your problem.

Hi Constanze,

That worked perfectly, thank you!
